***Yoga For Runners Workshop

Learn how yoga can improve your running!  Running is a great form of endurance exercise that builds muscle strength and burns fat, but without proper cross-training and self-care, it can put you at risk for overuse injuries. Yoga strengthens and tones all major muscle groups, while increasing flexibility, improving posture, and promoting mindful breathing.   Athletes of all kinds can benefit from a consistent yoga practice.  Many athletes can develop imbalances in their body because of the overuse of primary muscles specific to their sport. A yoga practice will help prevent injuries and increase performance by increasing flexibility, increasing mental focus and bringing balanced strength to the body.

Yoga Nidra – Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is an alpha state of consciousness combining alert awareness and deep relaxation. In this state you are easily able to tap into your own source of intuition, creativity, health and abundance. Yoga Nidra has the potential to heal past traumatic relationships, empowering you to release the constricting and self-harming energies of blame, anger, guilt, jealousy, hatred, fear, and attachment. The alpha state of Yoga Nidra is fertile ground for ceasing negative habits and behaviors and initiating positive change by setting a resolve (a sankalpa).  In this workshop you will learn more about Yoga Nidra and experience it for yourself.

The Eight-Fold Path of Yoga – The Eight-Fold Path of Yoga is attributed to Patanjali, also known as the “father of yoga,”  who compiled 195 sutras or concise aphorisms around A.D. 400 and known today as, The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali. This compilation is essentially a discourse in ethics and right living.  The heart of Patanjali’s teachings is the Eight-Fold Path of Yoga, also referred to as the Eight Limbs of Patanjali, because they are like the branches of a tree: Yamas (Self-Retraints), Niyamas (Moral Observances), Asana (Yoga Postures), Pranayama (Breathwork), Pratyahara (Sense Withdrawal), Dharana (Concentration), Dhyana (Meditation), Samadhi (Blissful Union).  In this workshop we will discuss each limb and how to work toward practical application in daily life.

The Art of Natural Motion Dance – Learn about the art of Tribal Fusion dance in this introductory workshop. Please come prepared to dance in a long, flowing skirt or yoga pants, sports top or tank top and a scarf to tie around your hips. Time Required: Approximately 2-3 hours (Flexible Timing).

Dancing the Seven Chakras – This experiential workshop examines belly dance from a three-fold perspective of balance between the mind, body, and spirit.  Through dance one finds balance between mind, body, and spirit; one realizes one’s place as the center between Earth and Sky. Proper posture allows prana to flow through the body, strengthening divine connection and opening the self to a harmonious relationship with the world around us. Belly dance activates the seven energy centers in our bodies through various motions, which we will learn and experience in this workshop. This meditative dance, combines music, rhythm, and movement, allowing divinity to flow through our bodies.
